Iodine deficiency in Goats
Iodine deficiency is a nutritional problem seen mainly in newborn kids, which have a higher iodine requirement than other livestock. Adult goats are able to tolerate seasonal fluctuations in iodine by using reserve supply that is stored in their thyroid gland, which is not yet available for newborns. Without sufficient iodine in the diet, kids are more susceptible to illness during cold, wet weather.
